ERASMUS+ PROJECT «BEYOND BORDERS»

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Considering the current situation in Europe where traveling and migration movements are part of people‘s everyday life, our motivation for the project is based on the conviction that a multicultural society is a benefit rather than a burden. Nonetheless, we are also aware of the political and social consequences of the so-called refugees‘ crisis – many of them are mirrored in every school‘s life.
Our society’s diversity is shaped by refugees, ethnic minorities and immigrants. We encounter different languages, cultural practices and beliefs and we are very often challenged in our world views. In order to prevent xenophobic tendencies our project is intended to develop strategies and methodologies for inclusive education. Our strategic partnership focusses on sharing and implementing innovative approaches and motivating practices to achieve more positive outcomes and make integration and inclusion more effective.
The opportunities digital technology can offer might support social inclusion and avoid drop out. When we first met on the eTwinning portal we discovered that our schools were following different approaches in pursuit of the same objectives. Consequently, we decided that first of all we would exchange best practices concerning digital communication, try them out with students in the respective schools, reassess them and develop new methods that might be disseminated beyond the borders of the participating schools. The planned activities will promote a deeper awareness in relation to the issues of integration and inclusion, fighting against stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination, exclusion and racism, forwarding diversity as an added value.
Our project is heavily based on the new methodogical approach called BITS:
B from Blended learning, e.g. the incooperation of multiple teaching methods to reach the whole social community.
I from ICT with the creation of various products (such as short films, radio shows etc.) to encourage students to become responsible participants in the digital world.
T from Tasked-Based-Learning because the project will encourage students to use
authentic language and ask students to do meaningful tasks.
S from socio-cultural because the project’s activities are embedded within the sociocultural reality of our students.
The project’s name Beyond Borders is more than a catchy title. It is the core aim of this adventure based on our deep conviction that the project’s activities will help students to reach out to new experiences in a multicultural world by overcoming physiological and
psychological borders of monocultural thinking.
It is absolutely vital that this project has to be carried out internationally because each partner joins with different experiences regarding social inclusion and digital know-how.
Students and teachers will have the opportunity to cooperate with schools in different parts of Europe and to develop mutual transnational understanding by gaining insights into local perspectives.
